Trail of Tears 2007

We able to see the Trail of Tears Bikers come through Madison, AL.  It was pretty cool to see thousands and thousands of bikers.  Here are a few pictures and a video.  They do this every year and the numbers of motorcycles keep increasing.  There are some very unique motorcyles.  Benjamin had a chance to sit on one but was a little to shy.  We had a great time.

It is hard to believe that it has been six years ago today.  I remember it like it was yesterday.  I was a typical day in the life of a college student.  I was waking up and getting ready for class.  I didn’t have a class until around 10:30, so I was slowing getting up.  When I turned my T.V. on, like I did every morning, only this morning was different, they were talking about a plane hitting th World Trade Center.  I could not believe my eyes.  What was so stunning about this was…we had just visiting New York and stayed at the Marriott hotel at the World Trade Center!!!!  How could something like this happen.  Innocent people losing their lives.  Heroic people taking their own lives to save others, like the people of Flight 93.  Everytime I watch that movie, tears come to my eyes!!!  All of the Firefighters, police, and bystanders on the streets helping people they didn’t even know.  It’s amazing what us americans will do for each other in the timeof a tragedy.  That is why it is so great to be an American.  You hear of all of the 911 calls made from the Twin Towers and I think to myself, what if that would have been me? As I watched the TV that morning, I remember seeing what looked like bodies falling out of the windows of the World Trade Center.  It saddens me just thinking about it.  People taking their own lives before the enemy could.  To all of the victims and families of the September 11, 2001 tragedy, you will never be forgotten.  Everyone needs to take a moment today and reflect…

I think Lee Greenwood and Alan Jackson say it all…

God Blessthe U.S.A.

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee, across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,Well, there’s pride in every American heart, and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free. And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.

I think think this video says it all, as well…

We got over the first hurdle of having to learn in the morning at school.  The first couple of weeks Benjamin would cry in the morning because he didn’t want to learn.  The teachers were trying to get them ready for Kindergarten, which means sitting at a table and doing worksheets.  Well, we got over that and he enjoys school again, so much that he is eager to learn how to write his name (I think it is mainly peer preasure).  Anyway, he came home from school proud of what he had done…He needs to practice some more, but as they say, “Practice makes perfect.”

Labor Day Weekend Fun

What a fun weekend we had.  We went down to Birmingham, AL to the Renaissance Hotel at Ross Bridge with my parents for two nights.  It was beautiful!!!  It was relaxing too.  The hotel looks like a big castle.  Benjamin had the most fun because the pool had a slide.  Griff and I enjoyed it because they had live entertainment poolside and a nice waterfall to hear in the background.   Here are some pictures of the weekend.
